“Together into the future” — Sokołów cow fattening programme

Current situation on the breeding market and the ability to change the direction of production were widely discussed during the second edition of the “Modern Milk Production” conference. Sokołów S.A.’s “Together into the Future” programme has been presented as one of the alternative sources of income during the recession in the dairy sector.

During the conference, many topics vital to the cattle farmers were discussed.  The agenda included, among other things, debates about the prospects for profitable milk production, the market situation following the abolition of milk quotas, and beef production as an alternative to milk production.

For dairy farmers wanting to change the profile of their business, joining the “Together into the Future” programme is a proposition worthy of consideration. During the opening debate, Dariusz Jakóbowski — Sokołów S.A. Raw Material Supply Director — argued that focusing on beef production may be a good solution, especially in light of growing beef consumption in Poland. A combination of dairy and beef farming can also prove beneficial.

Leszek Jakielski — Sokołow S.A. Deputy Purchase Director, presented the details of the “Together into the Future” programme to the conference guests.

Sokołów is one of the first Polish meat processing companies which has implemented a system of direct cooperation with farmers. The cow fattening programme has been put in place in 2007. The Polish farmers who participate in the “Together into the Future” programme benefit from a wide range of growth possibilities: Production increase, access to the latest technologies, and a possibility of a smooth change of the production profile. They are guaranteed that their animals will be bought (based on long-term contracts), that they will be paid on time, and that there will be minimum sale prices set for the long-term suppliers.

Sokołów S.A. has also prepared refreshments for the conference guests. They could try the beef from the farms participating in the “Together into the Future” programme, including Qulinarna Uczta steaks, kabanos sausages and long-cooked beef.

The “Modern Milk Production” conference was organised by the “Farmer” magazine.
