Sokołów S.A. reduces pollution emission

Caring for the environment, the Sokołów Group decided to abandon the use of coal in favour of natural gas, which is a cleaner energy source. A new boiler room that's been built in Sokołów Podlaski will allow savings of over 8,000 MWh of electricity and will reduce gas emissions by over 16,000 tonnes per year.

We have invested in a new boiler room because the old one was has worn out, and for the sake of our environment. Natural gas allows us not just to heavily reduce emissions of gases, but also to significantly lower the energy consumption – says Stanisław Wierzbicki, Sokołów S.A. Vice-President of the Management Board, Production and Development.

Since it’s opening less than a year ago, the new boiler room has allowed savings of more than 8,000 MWh of electricity and reduced gas emission by over 16,500 tonnes.

Utilization of the latest technology has made the power plant in Sokołów Podlaski one of the most eco-friendly and technologically advanced food industry energy facilities in Europe. Co-generation lets us to produce heat and electricity simultaneously in one process, which allows for a more efficient use of gas. Thanks to the new type of fuel, plumes of smoke coming from the boiler room have become a thing of the past – adds Stanisław Wierzbicki.

The construction of the boiler room has been co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget under the JESSICA programme. New investments are in the planning stage, proving that Sokołów takes full responsibility for its actions.

Being responsible company is not just about adapting to the basic legal requirements, but also about looking wider into the future. Investments in environmental protection are one of the elements that we pay particular attention to – highlights Stanisław Wierzbicki.
